If your friends and family are anything like mine then parties and hanging out generally consist of two things food, and vegging on the couch. Then in a couple of hours going back for dessert.
As you can see there is no physical exertion on my part in this activity. This is where the problem lies. Our entire social life is centered around food and t.v. don't get me wrong food is not a bad thing, and t.v isn't either, but when life centers around those things that's where the problem lies.
Think back to your high school days, were you more active than you are now? Here are a couple reasons why you might have been more active in high school than you are now. In high school it was easy to be active. The choices were join a team and go to the practices or ride the bus and do extra chores. Simply put there was a reward for going to practice. For me, it was getting out of riding the bus and doing extra chores.With that kind of motivation being fit is simple.Then you get out of high school and are completely free. There is no reward for being active. This is one reason why many people are less active after high school.
Another important reason why people are active in high school is because their friends are active. People tend to do the same things as their friends.
So to summarize in high school we were motivated by the reward of not having to do something we didn't want to do, and because of our friends, or our social life.
In the coming weeks we will come back to the social life and we will talk about what other people are doing.
